In September and October, free graffiti workshops will take place at the Summer Garden of the Gala Hala club for 7th, 8th, and 9th grade pupils from primary schools in the City Municipality of Ljubljana, as part of the Grafitarnice project, produced by the Culturemaker Institute.
Short presentation of the Grafitarnice project
In Ljubljana, graffiti and street art surround us at every turn, yet we often only superficially consider who creates them, which graffiti are legal and which are illegal, what they actually mean, and how we evaluate them. The central focus of the Grafitarnice project is therefore on practical ways of creating graffiti on different surfaces, as well as on understanding and evaluating graffiti.
The project is intended for upper-grade primary school pupils (third educational cycle) in the City Municipality of Ljubljana (MOL). Participation is free of charge. Children attending Tone Čufar Primary School (up to 20 pupils) and Majda Vrhovnik Primary School (up to 20 pupils) are directly invited, while pupils from other primary schools in MOL are also welcome.
Participants will be divided into two separate groups of 25 pupils. They will take part in a guided tour of graffiti in the center of Ljubljana and three graffiti-related workshops, which will be held at the Summer Garden of the Gala Hala club or inside the club itself (if it is too cold outside). During the workshops, children will create stencils, paint graffiti on wooden panels and canvases, and finally learn how to use graffiti techniques to create graffiti-printed clothing.
Through the workshops, children will become familiar with artistic, societal, and legal perspectives on graffiti creation. They will learn about different graffiti techniques and the practical aspects of stenciling, as well as pick up a few spray-paint tricks. The program will also include a presentation of specialized professional spray paints, through which participants will learn, for example, how to spray a proper line for the desired effect, how to hold and handle a spray can, how to develop their own unique style, how to create a personal graffiti tag, and more.
Registration
Registration takes place via the application form below on a “first come, first served” basis, so we encourage you to apply as soon as possible. Pupils will work in two groups:
-

-
GROUP ZOMBIES (sessions on Wednesday, October 11 and Friday, October 20)
You choose the appropriate group when registering. The number of places is limited to 25 pupils per group. 20 places per group are reserved in advance for pupils from the third educational cycle of Tone Čufar Primary School and Majda Vrhovnik Primary School. 5 places (or more if fewer pupils apply from the two mentioned schools) are available to other third-cycle primary school pupils in MOL.
